A lid alone is not enough. A 2024 study found closing the lid did not reduce surface contamination; disinfection did (Goforth et al., 2024). That is why Sterilloop washes and disinfects the toilet after every use.

UV-C can harm skin and eyes, so it only runs when the cabin is empty and the door is locked. Radar and thermal sensors work with hardware safety interlocks; if the door opens or someone is detected, UV-C switches off at once.

It needs a technical space of about 1.3 m behind the toilet wall. The rotating toilet, wash hood, supplies and controller live there; the cabin side looks like a normal restroom.
